Things Every Cat Should Know. A Diary of Musings, Views and Advice from a Wise Old Tom.

The Riddle of Sticks and Legs.

When we play, we pat and swipe
with very skillful flicks.
And that is why, our front paws
are called our fiddling sticks.

If we get tough, and over rough
our feet can thump harsh kicks.
And that is why, our back paws
are called our kicking sticks.

When we settle, on our tums
and fold our furry pegs,
it looks to all and sundry like,
well, we ain't got no legs!

But if we loll, and flop and roll
because it's warm and sunny,
then we've got so many legs
people think it's funny!

And have you ever noticed
if your car sets us running,
'Coo!' we've got some twenty legs
for extra speed. Damned cunning!

It's only when we stroll along
and stop for hurried licks,
you will see, we've got four paws.
We call them walking sticks.
